Over the past few weeks, our co-founder, Henrik Axelsen, had the incredible opportunity to present his latest research on Decentralized Autonomous Organizations DAOs across a diverse array of platforms- each bringing its own original flavor and focus to the table. Today, he reflects on each of these unique experiences:

Kicking off at one of the premier academic conferences in the information systems field in June 2024, it was exhilarating to engage with some of the sharpest minds in academia. The discussions were deeply rooted in theory, methodology, and the broader implications of blockchain technology within the information systems landscape. The academic rigor here was unmatched, challenging and refining my research in meaningful ways.

Shifting gears to a blockchain-centric environment, the NBA was a hub of innovation and forward-thinking ideas. Here, the focus was on the latest trends in blockchain and crypto, with an audience eager to explore practical applications and disruptive potential. The exchange of ideas was vibrant, with a strong emphasis on real-world use cases and the future of decentralized technologies.

At ZuVillage, I encountered a community with a deep cypherpunk ethos, committed to the values of decentralization, privacy, and autonomy. The audience was passionate and driven by a shared vision of a more equitable digital future. Presenting here was a memorable occasion, as it pushed me to think beyond the conventional and embrace the radical possibilities that blockchain can offer.

Finally, at the IBS, I had the pleasure of engaging with the next generation of scholars and practitioners, united by a multidisciplinary approach to blockchain research. The energy and enthusiasm were palpable, with participants eager to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and to drive meaningful change in the world through blockchain technology.

Across all these platforms, one thing was clear: the blockchain community is rich with diverse perspectives, united by a common goal- to harness the power of technology to create a better, more decentralized future. I’m deeply grateful for the feedback, the challenging questions, and the vibrant discussions that have already helped shape the next steps of my research.

The European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) 2024, Paphos, Cyprus
